It's no secret that work habits and environments are different here in the United States. Some of it is good. Some of it is bad. Here are some things other countries get that will probably make you a little jealous.

  • In Europe, you can refuse to work more than 48 hours a week. In the European Union it's called the Working Time Directive. You can still work over 48 hours in a week, but only if you give the okay to.
  • Sleeping on the job isn't frowned upon, it's actually praised in Japan, because it shows such a dedication to your job that you'd rather stay at work than go home and sleep. It's so common they even have a word for it. "Inemuri" means "sleeping on duty."
  • Tired of having to check email when you're not at work? France just passed a law that you can ignore work emails when you're not on the clock. It's called your right to disconnect and it's meant to help you destress.
  • Do you enjoy a good sauna? Then move to Finland. They're so big there that a lot of business meetings happen in saunas, and most big companies even have their own in-office saunas.
