El Paso has made many friends in the music world; one of the closest we've had were the guys in Pantera. Whenever they rolled through town, we made sure to have a good time with them. El Paso has history with the boys from Arlington, whether it was at the show or backstage. Here's a look back at how many times the boys in Pantera came to El Paso.

The first time El Paso saw Pantera was back in the 80's

Oh yeah; way before Pantera became the metal legends the world knows, they would roll through town during the Terry Glaze days. For 5 straight days, August 12 to the 16 (as shown on Pantera's tour history page), Pantera had a brief residency when in El Paso. The band brought their I Am the Night tour and played the old Saso's venue that used to be in Northeast El Paso in 1987.

There are no photos of videos from those shows in the 80s from El Paso, but there are some from their Dallas, TX performance at the Acadia Theater in October. So it would've sounded something like this.

Pantera rocked El Paso harder in the 90s

When Phil Anselmo joined the band & recorded their Cowboys From Hell album, that's when they started to take off. They never forgot how rowdy the crowds got in El Paso either, as they would play here an additional 4 more times. Their reappearance (first with Phil) was at Club 101 on December 5, 1991.

They played the El Paso County Coliseum on July 22, 1994, the Convention Center on July 16, 1996 & the County Coliseum one more time on November 26, 1997. There actually is an old radio ad that talks about the 97 show which is still available to watch online.

The coolest part was that the band loved to meet the fans after & before the shows too. We even did some digging in our photo albums & found some photos from their 1994 show in El Paso; the same one where Prong & Sepultura opened up for Pantera.

We miss you Dimebag & Vinnie. Forever our bruthas.

If YOU have any photos with Dimebag, Vinnie Paul, or ANY of the guys from Pantera in El Paso, we'd love to see them!
