Where Is All This Smoke in El Paso, Texas Coming From?
If it seemed a bit more...hazy in El Paso, Texas today, you're not going crazy. It IS quite hazy. In fact...it looks VERY hazy in the Sun City today. From the West side, to Downtown, to the Northeast... there is smoke ALL OVER the town. It looks ready to consume the entire city whole.
Even the view of Juarez is obscured because of the haze.
There's a reason why there's so much smoke in El Paso, Texas
The Smokehouse Creek wild fire that's currently happening in the Texas Panhandle is massive. It's SO massive, Governor Greg Abbott has declared evacuations that are in effect in Texas such as Potter County, Roberts County, Hemphill County & Hutchinson County. This is also officially the 2nd largest wild fire in Texas history.
To give some perspective on just HOW big these fires are. the fires are SO HUGE that over 850,000 acres of land are burning. That's the equivalent 150 Sun Bowl Stadiums... PER. MINUTE.
As a result of the massive fires, the quantity of smoke is quite large too. Add the wind factor blowing everything to the West and low & behold...that's the reason why El Paso looks so smoky.
Because of all the smoke, it's highly recommended that you drive a little slower due to low visibility & air quality is lower so definitely don't breathe in the air because of the smoke that's made its way into El Paso.
