UTEP Women’s Basketball Releases Black Lives Matter Video

Earlier today, the UTEP women's basketball team dropped a new video on their Twitter handle and the UTEP Miner Vision YouTube channel. Instead of a profile on a particular player, the entire team banded together to create their own virtual message in support of Black Lives Matter.

Although UTEP head coach Kevin Baker was not featured in the video, he was proud of the way his team came together to deliver their message. "I am very proud of our team in handling the Black Lives Matter movement," Coach Baker told 600 ESPN El Paso today. "Our team took the initiative to write a script, put their message on video, and send it out for everyone to see. There were so many ways they could have chosen to address this movement. But they chose to do it together."

Once the UTEP women's basketball team pushed the video out on their Twitter handle, the official NCAA women's basketball account retweeted it on their account and tagged the Miners. What is even more impressive about the message is that almost half of the Miners roster are overseas, and they are not yet able to travel back into the United States. Despite being weeks away from all of them returning to El Paso and the UTEP campus, Coach Baker is thrilled with his team's effort off the court.

"They wanted to do things as a team," Baker added. "They were led to make a statement that had an impact. I think they succeeded with their goal. We are here to make a difference. And this team will continue to do so on and off the court."
