Some enemies of the USA knew El Paso's name thanks to the troops who trained here at Fort Bliss but also via 2 Air Force bombers and 2 US Navy ships.

"The City of El Paso" was the name that graced not 1 but 2 United States Air Force bombers back in the day. Those are nice honors but there's more, darker, history between El Paso and bombers.

El Paso was named on 2 bombers but also, sadly, our mountain claimed claimed 3.

A huge number of Army troops trained at Fort Bliss for war but we were represented in name by 2 other branches of the United States Armed Forces.

US Armed Forces Honored El Paso

The Air Force showed El Paso some love twice, naming 2 different bombers "The City Of El Paso". (Should have been "west Texas town" in my opinion but I don't think Marty Robbins had written "El Paso" yet.) They were named for El Chuco and stationed here, on what was then Biggs Army Airfield.

Pretty cool, huh? Unfortunately, we have a not so cool history with bombers here in the 915 as well. The mountain has claimed 3.

The mountain didn't get the City Of El Paso but it was destroyed by human error in El Paso when the crew failed to lower its landing gear at Biggs Field.

Ooops ...

The US Navy Honored El Paso

The United States Navy also showed El Paso some love by naming 2 ships after us. One was a patrol frigate and the other one was an amphibious cargo ship. I guess they went with amphibious in case it ever wound up back here and had to sit in the Rio.

The patrol frigate was scrapped, the cargo ship ... as far as I can tell by this video ... is in Boston Harbor.
