El Paso Menudo Spots That Could Become Your New Favorite
In some El Paso families, Sunday morning comes with an assignment:
Find the pot, because somebody is going to get menudo!
If you've ever been the person sent out early on a Sunday morning with an empty pot in hand, you already know exactly what I'm talking about. I've made the menudo run plenty of times myself.
And there's something wonderfully normal about walking into a restaurant half awake, possibly still in your pajamas, handing over your pot and heading straight back home once it's full.
No judgment. No explanation necessary. You have menudo to deliver!
The Sunday Morning Menudo Run Is an El Paso Tradition
Weekend menudo is comfort food in El Paso, but Sunday morning menudo just hits a little differently.
Maybe you're feeding the family. Maybe it's cold outside. Maybe you partied a little too hard Saturday night and are hoping a hot bowl of menudo can undo some of your decisions.
Whatever brought you there, there's a good chance you aren't making it yourself.
Plenty of El Pasoans will proudly tell you the best menudo comes from their own kitchen. And I believe them! But sometimes it's nice to outsource the process and support a neighborhood mom-and-pop restaurant that already makes it exactly how you like it.
That's why I recently asked our KLAQ Facebook followers where they go for menudo on a Sunday morning.
The answers included longtime favorites, little hole-in-the-wall gems and a few places I never would have thought to visit for menudo.
So grab your pot. Here are some of the places El Paso told us belong on your next Sunday menudo run.

Some of El Paso's Menudo Favorites Surprised Me
Now, I expected to see plenty of familiar names in the responses.
I did NOT expect Speaking Rock Casino.
I didn't even know Speaking Rock served menudo! Although, considering I've had their wings and tacos and already know their food is good, maybe I shouldn't be surprised that people are making menudo runs there too.
Then there was one answer that came with what sounded almost like a confession.
Village Inn.
One person even asked whether it was a "sin" to like the menudo at Village Inn, and plenty of people jumped in to assure them they weren't alone.
I'll admit I've seen menudo on the Village Inn menu before and never dared to order it. After seeing how many people vouched for it, I think I'm going to have to.

Your Next Favorite Menudo Spot Might Be in This Gallery
That's what I loved most about the responses.
We all have our favorite places, and some families have probably been making the same Sunday morning menudo run for years. But there are so many little restaurants around El Paso quietly serving a bowl that somebody else considers the best in town.
And there's something comforting about the whole ritual.
Nobody bats an eye when someone walks into a restaurant on Sunday morning in pajamas with a pot in hand and leaves as quickly as they arrived, they know what's happening.
And thankfully, so many of our favorite places understand another important part of the El Paso menudo experience: give us some bread with it.
If you know, you know!
Now the only problem is deciding whose menudo gets the pot this Sunday!
