These Local Texas Gas Stations Are Cooler Than Buc-ee’s
If you need to stop for a snack or fill up in Texas, there's no shortage of places to visit here in the state. I know Buc-ee's is a staple gas station to visit in Texas (it's home to the biggest gas station in the state), but we're also home to some really unique & historic gas stations that are worth taking a visit.
McLean has a restored 1929 Route 66 gas station
For over 50 years this old Phillips 66 station was a popular spot for drivers to fill up since it opened in September 1929. After it was closed down, a Route 66 preservation group saved the place for falling into disarray in 1992. Today it's a historic marker you can visit at 212 First St.
Decatur is home to a gas station made out of petrified wood
You wouldn't think that it would be a good idea making a place that serves flammable liquid to be made out of wood, but this unique gas station opened up in 1927. It was even a place where Bonnie & Clyde stayed for a couple weeks in 1933.
The station closed in 1988 but it still stands today at 904 U.S. Hwy 287.
Fuel City is a contender for having the best tacos at any gas station in Texas
If you travel to Central Texas, you've probably seen Fuel City. Not only do the exteriors look unique, but they serve some of the best tacos you can enjoy on a road trip or sitting down. Other Texas locations offer pizza, burgers, fried pies, even daquiris too.
West is home to one of the best places for Czech food in Texas.
Maybe you want some European food while on the road trip; The Czech Stop in West, Texas has some of the best kolaches to enjoy. They also have a wide selection of sandwiches & pastries too. They also have a Shell gas pump at front too so it IS a gas station. 105 N College Ave, West, TX 76691
This El Paso gas station has been standing since 1919
Located at 2885 Grant Ave in El Paso, TX, this green & white gas station has stood proudly in the Sun City for over a century. It was closed down in 2008, but it was restored by Rod Davenport to its former glory.
While you can't get gas at this spot (due to the pumps being removed), it remains a piece of El Paso history. We can also see what it USED to look like, thanks to Google Maps.
