Total Eclipse of the Moon Event in El Paso Welcomes All to Astronomy Night

It's a total eclipse of the moon (not the heart)!

Celebration of our Mountains, a 501c3 organization, is celebrating this total eclipse of the moon known as the “Blood Flower Moon” with an "Astronomy Night" event taking place at Sue Young Park in Northeast El Paso at 9730 Diana Dr. which is actually a great location.

According to the event invite, "the 'Blood Flower Moon' will be a 100% total eclipse that will turn a spectacular 100% reddish color, it will also be visible for nearly an hour and a half. The eclipse will be visible beginning at 8:27 p.m. on Sunday May 15 into Monday, 16, 2022. It’s going to have the spectacular red look to it for 84 minutes, making it the longest total lunar eclipse since 2018. And it won’t be topped totality-wise until June 2029. A partial eclipse will begin at 8:27 PM and the full eclipse will commence at 9:29 PM and last until 10:53 PM."

Because this is a two night event, the astronomy double header will continue into Monday, May 16th at the same time and place.

For Monday's event, it will be a basic introduction to telescopes and how to use them to explore the night sky followed by moon, planet and star gazing. You are encouraged to bring your own telescope, but if you don't have one, don't worry- they'll have four different ones you can use while there!

If you are an astronomy lover and don't want to miss out on this event, then meet Celebration of our Mountains at Sue Young Park- you are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket and snacks! Look for the green flashlights.
