Someone in El Paso Needs to Break This Burrito World Record

El Paso, our time has come!

A world record exists for the fastest time eating a burrito, and while the current record holder deserves all the respect for what she accomplished, I refuse to believe there isn't someone in El Paso who can give her a run for her money.

We are a burrito city. Somewhere among us is a hero capable of bringing this title home.

The Burrito World Record Is 30.75 Seconds

Competitive eater Leah Shutkever recently reclaimed the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to eat a burrito, finishing a 1.35-pound burrito in just 30.75 seconds!

This wasn't beginner's luck.

Shutkever first set the record in 2019 and broke it again in 2022 before fellow competitive eater Miki Sudo eventually took the title. Now Shutkever is back on top, beating her previous best by nearly two seconds. She also holds dozens of other Guinness World Records, so I want to make it very clear: this woman knows what she's doing.

But 30.75 seconds, El Paso. That's our number.

El Paso, We Need a Burrito-Eating Hero

I'm not saying eating more than a pound of burrito in half a minute sounds easy. It absolutely does not.

I'm just saying if you're going to issue a challenge involving a burrito, El Paso feels like the wrong city to underestimate.

We need that one person who has spent years unknowingly training for this moment. The person whose friends already stare in disbelief when their burrito disappears before everyone else has even finished unwrapping theirs.

You may have thought you were just a fast eater, but you could be El Paso's next great athlete!

Of course, officially breaking a Guinness World Record involves more than grabbing your favorite burrito and having a friend start the stopwatch. Guinness has rules and verification requirements that have to be followed for an attempt to count.

But before we start worrying about paperwork, we need our champion.

So, El Paso, consider this a call to action. Start scouting your friend groups. Think about that cousin who somehow finishes an entire burrito during a five-minute lunch break. Find the person who always says, "I wasn't even that hungry," after absolutely demolishing their food.

We need an El Paso hero!
