If you grew up in El Paso, chances are you've been to your fair share of quinceañeras.

And we've all probably seen some scary stuff at them. A drunk uncle getting a little too comfortable on the dance floor. A fight breaking out. The horror of realizing someone showed up wearing the same dress as you!

But you've probably never been to a quinceañera with La Llorona on the guest list.

This Quinceañera Has Become a Nightmare

Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood is putting a terrifying spin on the traditional quinceañera with KILLceañera: Music by SLASH, one of the haunted houses in its 2026 lineup.

The story centers around a quinceañera named Lola, who isn't exactly interested in celebrating her 15th birthday with cake and a nice father-daughter dance. Instead, she's using her big night to get revenge on the bullies who made her life miserable by summoning ghosts and other sinister spirits.

Basically, imagine Carrie at a quinceañera and you're starting to get the idea.

The attraction is open during Halloween Horror Nights on select nights through November 1 at Universal Studios Hollywood.

La Llorona and El Cucuy Made the Guest List

Of course, you can't throw a haunted quinceañera without inviting some familiar faces.

KILLceañera incorporates Latin American folklore into Lola's revenge story with appearances from La Llorona, El Cucuy and El Silbón.

There's even a skeleton mariachi troupe because apparently the entertainment at this quince is booked for both the living AND the dead!

The idea actually dates back to 2018, when Halloween Horror Nights creative director John Murdy saw a quinceañera procession making its way through Universal CityWalk and started thinking about how the celebration could be turned into a haunted attraction.

Murdy reportedly worked with Universal's inclusion-focused team and Latin American team members while developing the concept, including help with translations and cultural details.

Slash Provides the Soundtrack to This Haunted Quince

And because ghosts, revenge and La Llorona somehow weren't enough, this quinceañera also got Slash!

The Guns N' Roses guitarist composed an original score for KILLceañera that incorporates Spanish guitar and includes an exclusive song appropriately titled “15 Candles.”

Slash has a long history of creating music for Halloween Horror Nights, but scoring a haunted quinceañera filled with Latin American folklore might be one of the more interesting additions to that résumé.

It looks like Lola's quince has just about everything; beautiful dress, mariachis, plenty of guests. Great music- oh, and La Llorona!

Maybe leave that last one off the guest list at your next El Paso quince!
