I think a majority of people recently learned that Texas Pete Hot Sauce is not made in Texas, but rather North Carolina, all thanks to the Texas Pete Hot Sauce lawsuit.

If you haven't heard of the lawsuit; long story short. A man in California filed a lawsuit against T.W. Garner Food Co., who are based in North Carolina, for false advertising. Apparently, we've all been lied to! Texas Pete hot sauce is not made in Texas.

According to court documents, when White purchased the hot sauce, he:

…relied upon the language and images displayed on the front label of the Product, and at the time of purchase understood the Product to be a Texas product.

The company fired back with a motion to dismiss by claiming that there was no trickery, they did put on the bottle that the sauce is made in North Carolina, however, the judge dismissed it!

Dairy Queen

We may hear them say "DQ, that's what I like about Texas" but that doesn't mean it's actually a Texas staple. Dairy Queen was actually founded in Joliet, Illinois in 1940 by John Fremont McCullough of Iowa. I wonder what the slogan is outside of Texas?

Longhorn Steakhouse

Longhorns may be a Texas symbol, but this chain is actually headquartered in Florida. The first Longhorn Steakhouse actually opened up in Atlanta in 1981.

Texas Roadhouse

Just because "Texas" is in the name doesn't mean it originated in Texas! This restaurant chain is actually headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky! The first Texas Roadhouse actually opened up in Clarksville, Indiana in 1993. I think I can forgive this one just because I really love those rolls!
