Every Texan knows at least a couple of ways to supposedly predict the weather without actually getting an official forecast. Some are silly but some actually work.

The weather in Texas can be tricky but as the old saying goes; if you don't like it, wait an hour ... it'll change. True story, Texas weather is totally bi-polar. I've seen it rain cats and dogs in my front yard while getting a sunburn tending the bbq grill in the backyard.

Getting a weather forecast right is tough in the lone star state but keep these things in mind and you can stay fairly on top of things.

Your best friends when it comes to weather forecasts ... beyond the obvious things like dark clouds, high winds, thunder, lightning, etc ... are animals, clouds and your coffee. Seriously, watch the bubbles in your coffee cup.

After you pour a cup of coffee, monitor the bubbles. If the bubbles rise to the rim of the cup, it indicates a high-pressure system and good weather in-coming, and for the next 12 hours — all good to go hiking. If they gather in the middle, it indicates a low-pressure system and bad weather. - medium.com
