Stay Warm and Thrifty: Budget-Friendly Tips for Texan Winters
We know it can downright FREEZING down here in Texas; sometimes it gets colder than some of our neighboring states here in the U.S. When the temperature drops, your first instinct is to probably crank up the heat.
Using the heater can be quite expensive in Texas
The problem is, while it certainly warms you up, it can also raise your heating bill...A LOT. Not only does it increase your gas bill, but it can raise your electricity bill too. Depending on where you live, and how often you use your heater, it can average easily up to over $100 a month.

So if you need some cost effective ways to keep warm in Texas, without having to touch the thermostat, here are some useful tips to keep warm when it gets cold outside:

Here are some other tips on keep your energy bill low in Texas
Huge thank you to the Take Care of Texas organization for these extra tips:
- If you have a ceiling fan, it's recommended you reverse it. This actually causes the warm air to circulate in the living space.
- Clear your HVAC system on any clogs from pet hair, dust, pollen (and possibly dirt from outside if it's windy). This causes your system to work harder to warm your house.
- If you have an attic in your house, make sure it has sufficient insolation.
- And finally, set your thermostat to comfortable temperatures if you can. If you can sleep at a lower temperature, lower it by a few degrees for a few hours a day to reduce the amount of energy your heating system uses in your home.
Now with that being said, I think it's time I make some hot cocoa for the night.
