Thanksgiving is the perfect time for getting together with family & enjoying food, but that's not always the case. Sometimes you can expect some awful weather during Thanksgiving & that's certainly been the case in Texas, New Mexico & Arizona. Each state has experienced some awful snow storms during Thanksgiving.

The most snow Texas saw during Thanksgiving was over 30 years ago

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the most amount of snowfall seen in Texas happened back in 1993; on November 25, the city of Dallas/Fort Worth saw about 3 inches of snow on the ground with temperatures between 23-35 degrees Fahrenheit. This has gone on record to be the coldest Thanksgiving in Texas history & it was the first time the Dallas Cowboys played a snow game for Thanksgiving.

While there have been certainly other times where an ungodly amount of snow has hit Texas in the past, the 1993 winter storm was among the worst seen on Thanksgiving.

The most snow New Mexico happened in the mid-70s

While it may be a desert state, New Mexico has seen its share of snow, even on Thanksgiving. The most amount seen in the state occurred in 1975; Chema, New Mexico saw 14.5 inches of snow on November 27.

Since then, there have other notable Thanksgiving storms that occurred on 1987, 1998 & as recently as 2019. Thankfully it wasn't enough to prevent having fun in the snow.

The most snow Arizona saw on Thanksgiving occurred back in 2019

It was only about 5 years ago that Arizona would see its biggest snowstorm on Thanksgiving in recent history. From November 28-30, 2019, a combination of rain, snow & wind would storm across north & central Arizona. The most affected areas were  Flagstaff & its airport (which saw between 14-19 inches of snow), Tusayan & the Grand Canyon (which saw between 18-21 inches of snow) & the Hart Prairie area saw 30 inches of snow.

So make sure you bring a jacket & gloves when you go enjoy Thanksgiving dinner; you never know what the weather will have in store.
