What an incredible weekend in college football!

Coach Prime is bringing excitement for Colorado Buff’s football for the first time in years, Georgia is looking to pull off a three-peat (the last time that was accomplished was by Army in the 1940s)…and the University of Texas just made a loud announcement, not only to their own conference but to their FUTURE conference, the SEC.

At the very least, the #11 Longhorns 34-24 win over #3 Alabama should stop some of the talk about Texas being “unworthy” of the South East Conference.

After this season both Texas and their arch-rival Oklahoma Sooners will join the SEC. Come to think of it, this year’s OU-Texas rivalry game takes on a whole other level of meaning.

The Longhorns looked better than “Good”.  They just announced that they are ready to make a run, not next year but THIS year. And, it doesn’t look like Coach Steve Sarkisian’s team is intimidated at all by the impending move.

On the other hand, you’ve got the UTEP Miners.

After a weak-looking loss in Week 1 to Jacksonville State and a shaky, unconvincing home opener win over Incarnate Word, the Miners were looking to go to Chicago and do something they’ve never done: beat a team from a Power Five conference on the road.  UTEP was actually a one-point favorite going into the game on Saturday.

They were humiliated…blown OUT…by Northwestern.

Despite being tied, 7-7, at halftime, the Miners were once again able to sink to their (true) potential in the second half, eventually losing the game 38-7. I haven’t yet seen any proof that the Miners actually came out and PLAYED the second half.

In the Week Two analysis, this is going to be a fun, possibly historic season for the Longhorns.

For the Miners, it’s just going to be long.
