We love to eat big in Texas & it's hard to argue that there's not many places bigger than one restaurant located in West Austin. We're not talking large chains from Texas either, like Whataburger or WingStop. This place has been regarded as one of the LARGEST restaurants you can eat at, in terms of square foot.

The Oasis in Austin is considered to be one of the largest in the world

Looking over Lake Travis in Austin is the place known as "The Oasis on Lake Travis" at 6550 Comanche Trail. Beau Theriot founded The Oasis back in 1982 by purchasing a 500 acre ranch & transformed it into a restaurant that sits on a cliff, 450 feet above Lake Travis.

Even just driving up to The Oasis, you can see just how massive it is.

How big IS The Oasis on Lake Travis?

30,000 square feet long & a seating capacity of over 2,800...yeah that's a pretty big spot. Because of its location above Lake Travis, The Oasis has gained a nickname: "The Sunset Capital of Texas" & has become a favorite serving mainly Tex-Mex food.

Even after witnessing Mother Nature's wrath, The Oasis is still thriving today

The Oasis did suffer a massive fire on June 1, 2005; a bolt of lightning struck the restaurant and caused a massive fire. Thankfully no one was hurt & the restaurant was reopened shortly afterwards.

Anyone who's gone to The Oasis can tell you that, if you're planning on visiting, you better be ready to do some walking...a LOT of walking because it's THAT big. But you have to admit...the view IS nice.

While The Oasis on Lake Travis might have a long history, it's not the OLDEST restaurant in Texas. You can find some of the oldest ones down below.
