Killer Bees In Texas? Yes – They Killed 3 Horses
A huge swarm of killer bees in Texas went after a group of horses, killing 3. Eyewitness says "they didn't give up".
No, this isn't the plot from that 1978 movie "The Swarm" in which Africanized or "killer" bees invade Texas, bringing Houston to its knees. This is real.
The horses owner was also attacked as she and others tried to save them, saying the bees came after her right away, getting into her hair and ears.
Despite the efforts of both owners, firefighters from two counties, EMT's and veterinarians, the horses were stung too many times and died. One on site, the other two at the vets office. The poor animals suffered terrible seizures after being stung tens of thousands of times.
Where Did The Bees Come From?
The bees apparently came from a huge hive, 7 feet long and home to millions of "killer bees", found in a nearby tree. Straddling the property line between two homes, the neighbors had just cut their grass which seems to be what made the bees mad.
Scary but true ... Africanzed or "killer' bees do exist, they're here in Texas and they're decidedly unfriendly. Last year, in the same area, bees attacked a man clearing land. He was put in a pickup and driven away but the bees chased the truck for half a mile.
“You hear that the Africanized bees are here and that they’re around but you don’t realize what that means. If they can kill three horses, what could they do to kids or an elderly person that can’t run.” - usatoday
