Popular Pizza Chain Is Closing Stores—Here’s What It Means for Texas
It's been a tough start of the year for businesses; and now another franchise favorite is announcing the closure of 200 locations! Don't freak out yet, it's good news for us in Texas!
Domino's Pizza announced that it will be closing over 200 locations this year. This is definitely not the first restaurant this year alone to make the announcement, most recently we learned about Hooter's being at risk of closing locations. However, in Domino's case, they're not filing for bankruptcy, they're simply downsizing.
With inflation reaching new highs almost everyday, restaurants have had to resort to higher prices, which discourages many customers from frequenting restaurants; it's certainly put a damper on the ritual of Friday night pizza because Domino's has seen many low-performing locations.
Luckily for us in Texas, and probably the rest of the country, the proposed location closures won't be here. According to QSRmagazine.com, Domino's will close 205 low-performing locations, with 172 of those locations in Japan in order to "sharpen market focus and improve profitability,” the operator said in an announcement.
Closures of the locations will run from April to June and the company expects to save about $9.72 million annually with a one-time cost of $60.8 million.
It's been a rough start to the year, and 2024 was not that great for many big brands either. Last year alone, many retailers like Rite Aid, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens and Big Lots announced several store closures of locations that were underperforming.
For now, I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that Domino's hasn't decided to close any locations in Texas! You can read more about Domino's here.
