Texas Declares Feb. 2nd ‘Chris Kyle Day’ To Honor American Sniper

New Texas Governor Greg Abbott will declare this Monday Chris Kyle Day, to honor the military veteran. 

Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted out on Friday that he declared this coming Monday Chris Kyle Day. "We honor our military heroes," he wrote. Governor Abbott announced his plans at a Texas veterans event on Friday, where he said Kyle was "a man who defended his brothers and sisters in arms on and off the battlefield."

Chris Kyle became a military legend and American hero with his 160 confirmed kills while serving in the military. The Navy Seal sharpshooter served several tours in Iraq, and is considered one of the most lethal snipers in American history. Kyle was shot and killed by 25 year-old Marine Corps Veteran Eddie Ray Routh on February 2nd, 2013. Routh's trial is set to begin in February.

Chris Kyle's memorial service was held on February 12th, 2013 at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The funeral procession was over 200 miles long, with hundreds of people lining Interstate 35 to pay their respects to the American hero.
