Twice a year, we are all tasked with having to fix the clock on our microwaves and ovens when daylight saving time either ends or begins (I'm still not clear on which is which), mainly because everything else changes itself except your microwave and oven!

Well, if members of the Texas House and Senate have their way, we may finally put an end to that as they have introduced bills that would permanently end daylight saving time. After some research I have found that currently, we are in standard time, but come March 9 we spring forward and we begin observing daylight saving time.

According to the Texas Tribune, most of the bills filed aim to adopt daylight saving time year-round- meaning we'd be in the "spring forward" time. However, state Sen. Judith Zaffirini is trying a different approach- her bill aims to adopt standard time year-round. Zaffirni tells the Texas Tribune:

The twice-a-year clock change is disruptive and unnecessary. Studies have linked these shifts to increased traffic accidents, negative health effects, and decreased productivity.

Zaffirni isn't wrong; how many of us struggle the day after the time change, whether we're springing forward or falling back? It's a hassle!

Daylight Saving Time was first introduced to make better use of daylight and conserve energy. The idea was to shift an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening, reducing the need for artificial lighting and saving fuel.

Today, some regions still observe DST to take advantage of longer daylight hours, while others, like Arizona and Hawaii, have abandoned it due to mixed effectiveness and concerns over its impact on health and daily life.
