One of the annoying cleanup duties that comes with cooking is getting rid of used cooking oil. We use a lot of that stuff in El Paso so here is an easy way to get rid of it.

Cooking oil comes in pretty handy, especially if you're making tacos, and cooks all over the Borderland go through a lot of it. It's easy to work with but getting rid of it after you're done with it can be a pain.

Whatever you do, don't pour it down the drain. Even a tiny bit of that stuff can clog up your pipes.

You can pour it back into the container it came in or another, resealable container but you have to wait for it to cool down which, ain't nobody got time 'fer 'dat. Especially if you're starving, right? Here are a couple of things I never knew that could help you speed up the process.

Getting Rid Of Used Cooking Oil

It's actually pretty easy thanks to science but before you dump yours, you should know that you can reuse it.  There's really no set number of times you can do this but stop if it smells funny or looks "foamy".

Here's where science comes to the rescue; mix the oil with baking soda. This transforms the oil into a paste which is easy to scoop out and toss in the trash.

If you have a ton of oil, too much to use all that baking soda on, you can also recycle it. Pretty much all restaurants recycle their oil so you can either find a recycling center or ask a neighborhood restaurant if you can just pour your oil in with theirs.
