Texas BBQ Seasonings Recalled Over Metal Contamination Concerns
A Class II recall, the 2nd highest risk warning the FDA uses, has been issued for a type of BBQ seasoning sold in Texas that may contain metal.
QST Ingredients and Packaging voluntarily announced a recall of 4 different BBQ seasonings So far, several bad batches were found in California and one was found in Texas. In all, about 20,000 pounds of seasonings are involved in the recall.
About a week or so after that initial recall, the FDA stepped in and raised the stakes; declaring their second highest level warning - a Class II recall. This is pretty major.
According to one report, the customers in Texas and Cali were either using the seasonings as ingredients in other seasonings or repacking them to sell individually.
"On August 7, 2025, Pax Spice, a supplier to QST, initiated a voluntary recall of onion granules due to potential contamination with metal fragments. In alignment with this recall, QST proactively and voluntarily withdrew the product out of an abundance of caution, despite all products passing our internal safety checks. - newsweek
