Tatis Smashes Into El Paso Chihuahuas Record Books
San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. provided El Paso Chihuahuas fans with everything they could’ve hoped for and then some.
The MLB star crushed three home runs at Southwest University Park and had 8 RBI in a 19-6 win over the Albuquerque Isotopes. Tatis Jr. went 5-for-6 on the night.
With that performance, he’s now in the El Paso Chihuahuas record books (despite the fact they were the El Paso Margaritas for the night in their strawberry margarita uniforms).
Tatis Jr. tied the team records for hits in a game, home runs in a game and RBI in a game. Only one other player had three home runs in a game (Luis Urias, 2019) and one player had 8 RBI in a game (Austin Hedges, 2016).
It came one day after Tatis Jr. was not in the lineup. Yes, that was the day game Buzz, Nico and I went to hoping to see him play.
He couldn’t have done it a day earlier!?
Tatis is only expected to be playing for the Chihuahuas until next week. He’s eligible to return to the MLB and play for the Padres on April 20 after serving out his suspension for a positive PED test.
In the meantime, he’s giving El Pasoans a reason to sit on the edge of their seats.
AND - he’s giving El Paso some really sweet publicity.
Nice to hear El Paso Chihuahuas play-by-play guy Tim Hagerty not just on 600 ESPN El Paso, but in the call on the SportsCenter tweet.
What’s also neat to see, he’s been giving the fans in El Paso their money’s worth even outside of the game.
A man of the people and now an El Paso Chihuahuas, or Margarita, legend.
