According to a recent analysis of Google Search Trends by BetMGM Casino, Texas stands out nationally for the way people are approaching New Year’s resolutions.

The data shows Texans rank highest among all U.S. states for searches related to social connections and hobbies. That includes searches about making new friends, improving relationships, starting hobbies, and learning new skills.
Rather than strict rules or quick fixes, people appear to be searching for goals that feel more social, creative, and realistic.

Based on search interest, the most popular New Year’s resolution categories in Texas were:
- Hobbies
- Career
- Health and fitness
- Social and relationships
- Finance
- Travel
- Bad habits
Hobby-related goals ranked highest, while resolutions focused on breaking bad habits ranked lowest, pointing to a shift away from all-or-nothing thinking. Which is something I’m totally okay with! This year, I also strayed away from making strict resolutions and instead want to lean in more on the hobbies I used to love before the hustle and bust set in!
