As of January 1st, 2025, the state of Texas says you no longer have to answer "Nosy Rosy's" who want your personal data.

As usual, come January 1st, 2025, a whole bunch of new laws will go into effect in the line star state and there's one hitting the books this year that I am ALL about.

A law already went into effect regarding the collection of personal data back in July but one particular clause was left out. That last piece of the puzzle will finally kick in on January 1st, 2025.

Section 541.055(e), Business & Commerce Code, is the technical name for the new law.

That section states that a consumer can designate another person or technology — such as website links, browser settings, or device settings — to opt out of personal data processing on their behalf. This means consumers will not need to contact businesses directly to opt out of giving their personal data.

Companies must honor the requests if they can verify the consumer’s identity and the agent’s authority but can refuse if the request is unclear, the consumer’s residency cannot be verified, the company cannot process the request, or if similar requests are not handled under identical laws of another state. - ksat
