Texas Locations of Popular Pizza Chain in Jeopardy
A popular pizza chain that has most of its locations in Texas, is facing multiple closures!
MOD Pizza, or “Made on Demand” Pizza, is a fast-casual restaurant chain selling “fully customizable” individually sized pizzas. However, rumors of a bankruptcy filing began to float around after 26 locations were closed due to "underperforming".
MOD Pizza has about 512 locations and most of their locations are in Texas with a total of 113 locations across the lone star state. Locations were shut down in 11 states- luckily, none of those closures were in Texas. But that didn't seem to qualm any Texan's fears.
But a new report from USA Today shared the news that MOD Pizza has a new owner. According to a news release from MOD Pizza, Elite Restaurant Group acquired 100% of the equity of MOD Pizza under a merger agreement between the company and an affiliate of Elite.
Beth Scott, CEO of MOD Pizza said in a statement:
MOD is a beloved brand with a strong following. We’re excited to work with Elite Restaurant Group to strengthen MOD’s future.
There's no word on whether this new acquisition will lead to new locations opening up; but we do know that there won't be a change to the pizza chain's brand name.
It's been a rough start to the year, and 2023 was not that great for many big brands either. This year alone, many retailers like Rite Aid, Bed Bath & Beyond, Walgreens and Macy's announced several store closures of locations that were underperforming. And we've seen bankruptcy announcements from places like Red Lobster and Hooters.
