Every Time Metallica Melted Faces in El Paso & Las Cruces
Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the whole & both El Paso, TX & Las Cruces, NM has been fortunate to see the metal legends rock BOTH cities. The band has even included audio & video from some of their shows for the world to enjoy. Before we look at their El Paso shows, let's look at their Las Cruces history.
Here's a look back at Metallica's shows in Las Cruces
Since 1983, Metallica has played our neighbors in New Mexico a total of 3 times. Their first show was at NMSU's Corbett Center Ballroom on August 28, 1983. There's actually audio from that show on YouTube but the audio is not the best.
Metallica would play Las Cruces twice in the 90s; August 27, 1992 at the Aggie Memorial Stadium at NMSU & at the Pan American Center on January 6, 1997. There's actual footage of the 1992 show that was uploaded on Metallica's official YouTube (even audio of Nothing Else Matters was released too on the album's 30th anniversary release).
While there's no footage of the 1997 show, there IS a crazy story involving the band & fans getting caught in a snowstorm that Dubba G wrote here.

Here are all the times Metallica came to rock El Paso
Metallica would come to El Paso a total of 5 times;
- The Big Apple on March 2, 1985 (Dubba G was at that show)
- The El Paso County Coliseum on May 12, 1986 (This performance actually became a live album)
- The Special Events Center (now the Don Haskins Center) on January 21, 1989 & on January 31, 1992.
- The most recent show Metallica gave us was on February 28, 2019 at the Don Haskins Center. A few of the songs were uploaded onto the band's YouTube page including The Unforgiven, & Holier Than Thou. This was also my very first time seeing Metallica, a day before my 26th birthday.
If Metallica decides to come back to El Paso, we will be ready for their return with open arms & devil horns at the ready.
