Mel Gibson and Kate Bosworth have returned to Las Cruces to do another movie.

Last November the Lethal Weapon actor spent a few days in the Electronic Caregiver building shooting Hot Seat while Bosworth was in town filming "The Locksmith" with Ryan Phillip.

This time Mel and Kate are teaming up for a movie titled The Informant, and have been shooting scenes inside the famously haunted Dona Ana County Courthouse and Jail.

The Haunted History of the Old Dona Ana County Jail

Built in 1937 and abandoned in 2008, the historic building located on West Amador houses the deserted jail the Travel Channel show “Ghost Adventures” investigated for an episode of the show in 2017.

It is believed to be inhabited by a shadowy figure nicknamed "Bubba," and the ghost of a lady named Mary Waters who is said to have died there in 1951.

Ramiro Galvan, lead investigator and founder of Paranormal Research Investigations El Paso, has wandered the maze-like hallways of the courthouse and jail on numerous occasions dating back to 2011.

Shadow figures, disembodied laughter and voices, and loud menacing footsteps are among the spine-chilling captures he and his team has made during their investigations.

Are Ghosts Haunting the Film Set?

According to Galvan, some of the crew members have already been spooked. Ramiro told me that a few have commented on the down low about hearing voices when alone, and feeling like they are being followed.

While no one on the set has reported seeing an actual ghost (that we know of), it's always a possibility. Especially in the office Gibson has been filming his scenes in.

David Crider, who runs the Las Cruces based adventure tours company Southwest Expeditions which holds a monthly Haunted Courthouse Tour, says a bearded figure “with a handlebar mustache and wearing a white shirt with a black bow tie” has been seen "staring out the window” of that office “at least half a dozen times" over the years.

I don’t know if Mel has experienced anything paranormal in the short time he’s been in the building, but even if he has he probably ain’t ‘fraid of no ghosts anyway – he’s Sir William Wallace, after all.
