‘The Madison’ Secretly Films Big Scenes in Texas
I just finished binge-watching The Madison, and now I’m fully invested, not just in the story, but in figuring out where everything was filmed!
Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned from watching Taylor Sheridan shows, it’s this: if something looks like it might be Texas, it probably is.
Sure enough, while The Madison takes us to Montana and New York, it didn’t take long to realize some of those big city scenes felt a little too familiar. And that’s because a good chunk of what’s supposed to be New York, is actually Texas!
The Madison Spans Montana, New York and Texas
On paper, The Madison lives in two very different worlds.
There’s Montana’s Madison River Valley, where the story centers on a family rebuilding their lives, and then there’s New York City, where parts of their past still linger.

The wide-open Montana shots? Those are real.
But the polished, big-city New York scenes? That’s where Texas quietly steps in.

Texas Quietly Doubles as New York
While a handful of scenes were filmed in actual New York, most of what viewers see as Manhattan was shot right here in Texas, mainly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Fort Worth, in particular, does a lot of the heavy lifting.
From streets to restaurants to office buildings, the city transforms into New York throughout the series without most viewers ever realizing it.
Fort Worth Locations You Might Recognize in The Madison
Several North Texas spots make appearances across The Madison, just under different names and roles.
- The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth becomes a conference setting
- Clay Pigeon stands in for a New York restaurant
- The Wicked Butcher in Sundance Square appears in another dining scene
- A Fort Worth coffee shop shows up in the finale
- Downtown office buildings double as corporate New York
- Even Weatherford steps in as Idaho for a sheriff’s office
It’s a full-on transformation, and Texas pulls it off without missing a beat.
Taylor Sheridan’s Texas Connection Runs Deep
At this point, it’s not even surprising. Sheridan may set his stories in places like Montana or New York, but Texas is almost always part of the equation behind the scenes.
With a production base in North Texas and multiple series already filmed here, the state has become a go-to backdrop for his projects, including Landman and Lioness.
And with The Madison, that trend continues in a big way.
