This Texas Werewolf Comic Needs an El Paso Chapter

If someone told me there was a horror comic set somewhere in the Texas desert with something lurking in the mountains after dark, I'd probably buy it without even reading the back cover!

So when I learned Texas writer Robert Saucedo is building a supernatural comic universe with Where Wolf and its upcoming sequel Curse of the Where Wolf, I was immediately interested.

But then I read the part that really sold me: Saucedo told Chron he'd like future stories to explore different Texas cities. My first thought? El Paso would be perfect for that!

A Texas Horror Comic Is Exploring the Lone Star State

Saucedo's first graphic novel, Where Wolf, was published in 2022, and Curse of the Where Wolf continues that story. But what really caught my attention is his hope to eventually tell supernatural stories set in different Texas cities.

I love that idea because Texas is huge, but every corner of the state has its own personality. East Texas horror doesn't feel like Hill Country horror, and neither of those feel anything like the Borderland.

Which is exactly why El Paso immediately came to mind!

El Paso Already Has the Perfect Horror Setting

I'm not saying El Paso is spooky...but I'm also not not saying it!

Drive Transmountain after dark. Watch the sun disappear behind the Franklin Mountains. Head out into the desert where the only sound is the wind- or maybe a coyote in the distance.

Then add in Borderland folklore, local ghost stories like the Monk on Transmountain or the Witches House on Piedomon, and miles of rugged desert, and you've already got an incredible setting for a horror comic.

The one thing we don't really have? Werewolf lore.

Honestly, I think that's part of what makes the idea so interesting. It gives Saucedo the chance to create something completely unique for El Paso instead of relying on an old legend.

Why El Paso Should Be the Next Stop

If Saucedo really does continue taking this series across Texas, I hope El Paso eventually makes the list.

Maybe our story wouldn't even involve werewolves. Maybe the Borderland gets its own supernatural creature inspired by the desert, the mountains, or local folklore. Either way, I'd be first in line to read it!

Because after learning about Saucedo's vision for this series, I can't stop thinking that El Paso would make one unforgettable setting. Curse of the Where Wolf will be released on August 7.
