Lawsuit Claims US Gymnastics Paid to Keep Sex Abuse Quiet
This news didn't just break yesterday, but the details of this are just now coming to light and they are shockingly disturbing. A lawsuit has recently been filed on behalf of McKayla Maroney that claims she was paid off by US Gymnastics to keep quiet about the sexual assault that was happening, courtesy of the team doctor.
I am warning you, the details of the suit are disturbing. The following is an excerpt from McKayla's mother about an incident in Tokyo in 2011:
“[Nassar] drugged her, made her lay nude on a treatment table, straddled her and digitally penetrated her while rubbing his erect penis against her,” Erin Maroney wrote. “She was only 15 years old. She said to me, ‘Mom I thought I was going to die.’ This experience has shattered McKayla. She has transformed from a bubbly, positive, loving, world class athlete into a young adult who was deeply depressed, at times suicidal. At times, I was unsure whether I would open her bedroom door and find her dead.”
Former team doctor Larry Nassar pleaded guilty to 10 counts of criminal sexual conduct and is scheduled to be sentenced in Michigan in January. He is already servig 60 years in prison on child pornography charges. Along with Nassar, Michigan State University is being blamed for not following up on claims of sexual abuse by Nassar.
