Imagine, if you will, it's your best friend on the East Coast's birthday, and you want to send them a present. You pack it up, tie it in a nice little bow, and send it off.

All of a sudden, the police are at your door and you're walking away in handcuffs.

What Can You Not Mail in Arizona?

Your biggest mistake was not keeping up with mail ordinances, so I'm here to get you up to speed. The state of Arizona strictly prohibits several items from being mailed, some more nonsensical than others.

First on the list, of course, is deadly weapons. While this of course applies to firearms, swords, and other weapons, it also includes box cutters, butterfly knives, and razor blades, so if you wanted to send your friend a new Swiss army knife, think again.

Following that, explosives are also not allowed for obvious reasons. This is much more straightforward, banning gunpowder, fireworks, and of course, bombs.

Flammable liquids and hazardous chemicals are next, banning substances like gasoline, acetone, Nitric Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, and even alcohol due to their flammability. The substance must have a flash point below 100 degrees Fahrenheit for it to be safely shipped.

Contraband is also prohibited, banning all illegal drugs (and yes, even though marihuana is legal here, you absolutely CANNOT mail it, even in-state), as well as items that could be weapons, like baseball bats, plastic brass knuckles, and toy guns, to name a few.

Lastly is any religious item that could be considered a weapon. Now, many highly religious people hold certain items to a spiritual significance and will request they make it through the mailing process untampered. If this is the case, and the item is a small charm, leather pouch, or medicine bag, the package will be checked via X-ray to ensure the package is safe while still upholding the sender's wishes.
