This Texas College is One of the Safest Places To Fire A Gun
How many times have you heard gunshots in the middle of the night (or sometimes in the middle of the day) just out of nowhere? If you live in El Paso County, it's a really common occurrence. Whether you live out in Fabens or the west side, you're more likely to hear someone firing off a couple of rounds out in the desert. But you don't need to anymore because one El Paso campus offers a gun range so you don't HAVE to go out in the middle of the desert.
Why you shouldn't shoot out in the middle of the desert
- First of all: unless you're hunting (and you're in an area that it's allowed to shoot), it's otherwise illegal. Not every part of the desert is allowed to be shot at. You can find all the proper laws for shooting game in Texas & restricted areas here. Same rules apply with your backyard; there's some exceptions but it differs from city to city so it's important to know what you can & can't do.
- 2nd of all: innocent people (and wildlife) can still be hit by a stray gunfire round;
- and finally: if you're not careful, the wildlife CAN fight back. Just look at the man who shot a cactus in Arizona...
What college campus has a legal shooting range?
If you travel to the El Paso Mission Del Paso Campus, you'll find the EPCC Law Enforcement Training Academy.
In addition to the self-defense classes & gun safety courses, they also have a full on gun range (that IS open to the public).
They are also offering an open house on Saturday, May 20th, where people can learn about getting a firearm license/firearm safety, self-defense for women & will be giving a demonstration of the indoor shooting range.
So now you know where to go if you want to fire off a couple of round safely (and more importantly LEGALLY).
