The 4th of July can be a fun time for many people in the Borderland. Lots of friends and family, lots of fun activities, plenty of food, and entertainment all thanks to the beautiful, bright and loud fireworks. While the fireworks are the highlight of many kids 4th of July festivities, your furry family member may not be as entertained by them. The 4th of July fireworks can be terrifying for many pooches and the Humane Society of El Paso is hosting an event to hopefully comfort their rescues during the scary time.

The Humane Society of El Paso is hosting a "Pops for Pups" event at their shelter this Thursday to help their animals with the stress of the holiday. People are invited to come to the shelter to help keep the animals calm by reading to them while listening to the Boston Pops. Volunteers are asked to bring their own chair, cushion, or something else to sit on and one of their favorite books. Donations of treats and toys are also encouraged and accepted.

The Pops for Pups event will be this Thursday from 8:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Seating is limited and tickets are $10. People who would like to participate are asked to reserve their spot on and purchase a ticket through EventBrite. The Humane Society of El Paso is located at 4991 Fred Wilson Avenue. You can find out more information about this event by calling the Humane Society at (915) 532-6971.
