How Chico Scores in the NHL for El Paso (Holiday Edition)
Remember that time there was a strange, random connection between the El Paso Chihuahuas and the Toronto Maple Leafs? Chico holding a random hockey man's photo?
If not, here is a refresher from a story I shared with you a while back about the budding relationship between Chico, (the El Paso Chihuahua mascot), and NHL forward Alex Kerfoot.
Turns out, that relationship wasn't just a fling. Things are getting serious. Chico is ride-or-die, baby... and didn't forget about Kerfoot.
PICTURE IT. Kerfoot has scored 2 goals total in the entirety of the 2022-23 NHL season (29 games in). Game 30 against the Anahiem Ducks? 2 goals. Doubled up his stats in one game.
That prompted this question from a Maple Leaf's fan on Twitter:
And believe it or not, the Toronto Maple Leafs credited THE EL PASO CHIHUAHUAS for his big win.
Yup! The video shows Kerfoot being given a gift before practice and it's from his main squeeze, CHICO.
In the video, you can see Kerfoot opening a gift bag with a shirt and a Chihuahuas stuffed animal. It even included a Chihuahuas jersey in the bag.
"That is nice stuff," Kerfoot says in the video. "Thank you guys, I appreciate it."
This obviously still left some Maple Leafs fans confused, but they provided the backstory (when really they could've just linked my story). Next time, Toronto!
And the long-distance relationship seems to be continuing into the holiday season.
Happy Holidays, Toronto Maple Leafs!
-Love, Chico and the El Paso Chihuahuas
P.S. Come on down and play an Outdoor Classic at Southwest University Park. El Paso is Hockeyville, USA after all and there is literally an ice skating rink next to the stadium. Right now. Real ice!
Just a little throwback of Chico in the snow to get you in the holiday spirit!
