Help Needed To Find Hit And Run Driver Who Struck EPPD Officer
An El Paso Police Department officer was struck by a car over the weekend and the driver fled the scene.
Early Saturday morning, El Paso Police officers on bikes approached a black sedan which then deliberately tried to run down the officers, striking one of them and breaking both his legs. Here is the official report from our news partners at KVIA:
Authorities said three bike patrol officers had approached a black sedan slowing down at the intersection when the driver accelerated towards the officers. The car struck the bikes and injured one of the trio, while the other two officers were unhurt. The officer who was struck suffered fractures to both legs, officials said. - KVIA
Due to the late hour, there were probably not many people in the area but police are asking for help from the public to find the car and identify the driver. The incident occurred in the El Segundo Barrio, at the intersection of East 7th Avenue and South Campbell Street.
If you or anyone you know have any information that may help the El Paso Police Department to do so, you are asked to contact El Paso Police detectives at 915-212-4040 or you can call Crime Stoppers at 915-566-TIPS. A similar plea for help was issued by the El Paso Police Department in February after an El Paso Firefighter was the victim of a hit and run driver.
Other similar incidents this year have included a Socorro man, a well-known El Paso musician, and an El Paso biker.
