A Drunk Woman Haunts this New Texas Winery
A Texas winery is letting you hang out with a ghost at no extra cost! Her name is Stephanie, unofficially, and she may be from the 1800s! If your ideal weekend includes wine and the chance to meet a tipsy ghost, then this Texas winery is perfect for you. The Charleston Taylor Estate Winery just opened in Johnson City, and it’s already gaining buzz for more than its reds and whites.
The Charleston Taylor Estate in Johnson City, Texas
The winery opened earlier this year in May by owners Whitney and Jared Broach. Among the sprawling estate's 6,000 square feet, and beneath the scenic vineyards, they discovered a 40-foot-deep well from the 1800s, that they decided to incorporate into their offerings at the winery. It was then that the owners say they heard the voice of a woman who sounded, well, a little buzzed.
It was then that the co-owners decided to hire a ghost hunter, I guess when you own a winery you never knew you had to call ghost busters! The New Orleans based ghost hunter told them at first that she heard a dog, then, the ghost hunter said she heard what sounded “like a drunk woman" according to Broach!
They decided to name her Stephanie, and she lives at the bottom of the well and guests are invited to sip alongside her under a custom-built dome above the haunted well.
Charleston Taylor Estate Winery may have a haunted well, but it’s also serving serious Hill Country charm. Nestled in Johnson City, the boutique winery offers small-batch wines made on-site, sweeping views of the Texas landscape, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe.
Guests can enjoy tastings in the modern-rustic tasting room, stroll the grounds, or gather under the dome near the infamous well- where Stephanie the ghost is said to make her presence known with the occasional cold breeze or echoing laugh.
Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the wine (and the story) is worth the trip.
