Protestors Invade UTEP Wearing Explicit Shirts Insulting Students
People are allowed to peacefully protest in the state of Texas if they want, just as long as they aren’t hurting anybody. But a group of protesters recently took to the University of Texas at El Paso with their picket signs and t-shirts broadcasting hate speech directed at students.
If anyone wants to peacefully protest in America, they’re still protected by the First Amendment of the Constitution, meaning their freedom of speech is protected. But that doesn’t mean that everyone is going to like what you are saying, especially if that includes spreading hate speech and, unfortunately, the students at UTEP endured that on Thursday, Feb. 13.
People were NOT happy with the protestors' signs and t-shirts on the UTEP campus.
A post on FitFam showed various people being seen on the UTEP campus carrying signs that intended to warn certain groups about their actions and stated “God Will Destroy You” by citing the Bible verse Romans 1:32. Another sign read “Homo Sex is Sin” followed by Romans 1:27.
Other photos showed people wearing shirts that insulted UTEP students. Some of the t-shirts read “God Hates UTEP,” “UTEP Students are [explicit] Losers” and “Most UTEP Girls Are [explicit].” And to add insult to injury, the shirts were in the UTEP school colors.
You can see what these signs said but a NSFW & trigger warning is very much included here:
These photos not only made several people in El Paso angry, but they even made their way onto Reddit, which made even MORE people upset. The post is closed so no one is able to post their comments, but you can still see what people's thoughts were regarding these signs.

This wouldn't be the first time we've seen this kind of behavior in El Paso. It has happened many times before, like in 2013 when Westboro Baptist Church paid a visit to El Paso to protest a memorial at Fort Bliss.
Texans should always remember that it’s legal to peacefully protest in America, but by spreading hate speech, that’s where it can cross a fine line. As of Friday, Feb. 14, there has not been an update from UTEP regarding this week’s protests and there has been no police reports issued regarding the recent protests. But online, most El Paso residents agreed that UTEP students do not deserve to be harassed or attacked, and that a protest like this was not warranted on the UTEP campus.
