When the El Paso Police Department first shared the bodycam video, it was definitely shocking.

Like a lot of El Pasoans, though, I watched it, thought, "Wow," and then moved on with my day. It was another local story in a busy news cycle.

Then I turned on the news this morning- and there it was again!

Only this time, it wasn't just local news talking about it. The video has started making national headlines, and after watching it again, it's easy to understand why.

A Routine Traffic Stop Changed in an Instant

The bodycam footage shows an El Paso police officer conducting what appeared to be a routine traffic stop when everything changed in a matter of seconds.

As the officer stood outside the patrol unit speaking with the driver, another vehicle suddenly crashed into the police SUV. Both the officer and the driver who had been pulled over suffered minor injuries, but the video makes it painfully clear how much worse the situation could have been.

Watching the body footage now, it's easy to understand why it's getting national attention. It's a powerful reminder of just how dangerous roadside traffic stops can be and how quickly an ordinary moment can turn into something much more serious.
