A cop in El Paso pulled a car over and was almost killed while trying to write the driver a ticket. He's ok but 2 other El Pasoans were killed in a similar incident this weekend.

A typical day at work almost cost an El Paso police officer his life when "distracted" driver almost killed both him and the driver of a car that he had stopped on I - 10. The cops body cam caught it all on video. The officer had just started to talk with the driver when a car rams the stopped vehicle from behind at a high rate of speed.

The EPPF officer was on a motorcycle which the driver managed to somehow avoid when he crossed into the breakdown lane and knocked the stopped car about 500 feet forward according to this EPPD Facebook post.

Remember, if you see cops, emergency vehicles, tow trucks, highway crews ... anybody ... in the breakdown lanes, slow down or move over. It's not only an important safety step, it's also the law.

A similar accident claimed 2 lives on I - 10 this weekend.

2 Drivers Killed In El Paso

Omar Rene Botello was in the breakdown lane trying to change a tire when a car driven by Michael Isaiah Sepulveda rear - ended him.

According to police, Sepulveda was driving at a “high rate of speed” east on I-10 when he veered right and crossed all lanes into the shoulder. His vehicle continued down the shoulder at a high rage of speed when it struck the rear of Botello’s car, police said.

Police say that speed and alcohol are contributing factors in this crash. - ktsm

Botello died on site. Sepulveda was taken to the hospital where he died later. Again, pay attention folks and if you see someone in the breakdown lane, give them some room.
