Going on tour is one of the biggest accomplishments any artist can have: spreading their talent & message to new audiences. El Paso's Javier Martinez is no stranger to performing in town & around the United States; he's been doing it regularly for the last 15 years. Every time he's gone on tour, he's done everything as an independent artist with little to no help. He's worked with many local musicians & you might know him as being half of the duo Cult Loveless with Emily Davis.

His project, Tale Of Giants, put out their 2nd EP, A Departure, back in December & he's going to promote his music overseas in a couple of countries in Europe.

Now playing in another country is no small feat so to do it on your own... that's almost impossible to do, especially with no management or a label to book the expenses. And when I spoke to Javier, he explained just how difficult it was:

  • "I wanted a challenge & I decided to take my show over seas. I initially chose Ireland because it’s a small English speaking country and I thought people  would be easy to communicate. Also, I could hit more cities in a short time. It turned into a numbers game. I literally contacted over 100 venues and musicians only to get uninterested responses or nothing at all. It’s really hard when you know absolutely no one and everything you send is unsolicited. But as an Independent artist...that’s how it’s done. As the year passed, I continued to follow up and continued my research in Ireland. Then began spreading out to Scotland, Manchester and London. I soon met some nice folks via Bandcamp and Instagram. Then the shows started to take form."

And that hard word finally will pay off in September as Javier will be doing 5 European dates: Dublin (twice), Glasgow, Belfast & Manchester

When asked about how he felt representing El Paso, and being one of the few local artists to perform overseas, "It’s my first time overseas and I’m excited to share my songs and represent El Paso. I’m hoping this will lead to more traveling and inspire songs."
