Chef Gordon Ramsey Declares His Love for Texas Beef
Hell’s Kitchen might belong to Gordon Ramsay, but when it comes to beef, he says Texas reigns supreme. The fiery celebrity chef recently praised the Lone Star State for having “some of the best beef in the world,” and Texans are eating it up, literally.
A Compliment as Big as Texas
In a new video with Condé Nast Traveler, Ramsay gushed over Texas’ “incredible beef” and called the state a “standalone country” when it comes to food.
I got to admit, it feels pretty good to know that this celebrity chef doesn't think Texas is an idiot-sandwich! For a man who’s dined everywhere from Michelin-starred kitchens to jungle cookfires, that’s high praise, and a reminder that maybe we should be judging him next time he’s in town.
It’s no secret that Texans take their beef seriously, from the smoky brisket joints of Austin to the backyard barbecues of El Paso. So when one of the world’s toughest food critics tips his chef’s hat to Texas beef, you know we’re doing something right.
Somewhere, a pitmaster probably shed a single tear of mesquite-smoked pride.
Ramsay’s Texas Connection
Ramsay isn’t new to Texas flavor. He’s filmed several episodes of National Geographic’s Uncharted here, exploring local dishes and fiery flavors.
In 2023, he even moved the U.S. headquarters of his restaurant group to Dallas, a bold sign that his heart (and his appetite) are firmly in Texas.
And while he called parts of the state “barren,” Texans were quick to clap back online.
One commenter joked, “Clearly he’s never been to the Gulf Coast,” while another quipped, “Come to El Paso, Chef we’ll show you flavor that’s anything but barren.”
Whether he’s biting into a ribeye in Dallas or chasing tacos in El Paso, Ramsay clearly gets it: Texas doesn’t mess around when it comes to flavor.
