George Mason Combo Guard/Forward Otis Frazier III Commits to UTEP
After the UTEP basketball team received an official commitment from Evansville guard Shamar Givance this weekend, another Division I transfer revealed he would be joining the Miners for the 2022-23 season.
George Mason combo guard/forward Otis Frazier III announced that he will be joining the UTEP basketball team this weekend via his social media. As a sophomore, Frazier III will have three years of eligibility.
Though the Buckeye, Ariz. native never started for George Mason, he averaged 8.0 minutes off the bench this past season, where he averaged 2.7 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game. He shot 58% from the field and 36% from 3-point range on about two attempts per game. He has also logged 35 career games in Division I basketball. In high school, he led Mt. Zion Prep to a top-10 finish in the National Prep Coaches Poll (2020) and starred for Buckeye Union High School, where he helped the squad reach the state semifinals in 2018.
As a 6-foot-6 combo guard/forward, the Miners can initially ask Frazier III to provide some depth behind Jamari Sibley or Jonathan dos Anjos at the 3/4. Though he never broke through as a starter at George Mason, Frazier III is still young in his college eligibility and has a chance to develop under Joe Golding's system at UTEP.
No, he's not an immediate replacement for a guy like Keonte Kennedy. But, Frazier III gives the Miners depth behind some of their lengthier players.
The Miners now have a pair of scholarships available after Givance and Frazier III committed this weekend. Read Steve's article from Saturday to see the team's projected depth chart.
