Combining two households can be hell.   After getting married in December and moving into my husband's fully furnished home, I was left with a lot of unnecessary stuff.  What to do with it?  How about try to make some money by having a garage sale?  Sounded like a good idea.  I took a week of vacation (I now need a week of vacation after this) and got ready for what I thought was going to be the greatest garage sale ever.  I cleaned and put prices on what seemed to be about a thousand items and set them up in categories, such as lamps, kitchen, appliances, art.  A lot of work.

I was exhausted by Friday afternoon, and knew that despite putting "no early birds" in my newspaper ad, there would be people already at the house when we got there about an hour earlier than the sale would start on Saturday morning.  Sure enough.

There are several types of garage sale attendees.  You have the people who are just looking, the people who have something specific they are looking for, and my least favorite, the guy who owns a thrift store and wants you to sell him everything you have for nothing.

The guy who came to my sale was a character.  I could tell right away that he had a store.  He came in like a man on a mission,  he pulled items, placed them in a corner, then wanted me to give him a 50% discount off already rock bottom prices.  These guys are geniuses.  You sell them everything they want dirt cheap just to get them out of your house!  They are so blasted annoying!

Anyway after six hours of dealing with looky loos and people wanting my treasures for pennies, I decided never again!  In the future, any item I no longer need will be donated to charity.  Let them make the money, even if it is only pennies.  That is what they are in business to do.  I still have not fully recovered from this experience!  I am still packing up the stuff that didn't sell so I can donate it.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever found at a garage sale? I found these weird things on a Facebook page dedicated to weird stuff found at garage sales and thrift shops. Let me know if you've found weirder by leaving a comment below!
