Last week was Mardi Gras and Ash Wednesday, which means Lent is officially underway. Lent is the 40-day period before Easter, a time for Christians to give up something to replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice.

People will give up lots of different things- from soda, chocolate, alcohol, fast food, and more- everyone will avoid the same thing on Fridays. On Fridays during Lent, Catholics stay away from meat, like pork, chicken, turkey, and red meats, and instead dine on fish and other kinds of seafood.

There are plenty of El Pasoans observing Lent and to help you find more food options for Friday, we've compiled a list of locally-owned restaurants for you to try.

Some of these are great reviewed dinner options, and others were recommended by the El Paso foodies. Hopefully, this will help you find a new favorite, local spot for you and your family. And if you're a vegetarian or vegan, we have a special list coming just for you.
