On April 21, 2016, the world of music lost one of its biggest icons: Prince Rogers Nelson. Though he might be gone, fans who saw him live will never forget seeing him perform. That includes the lucky fans who saw him in Las Cruces in the 80s & the 90s.

When did Prince come to Las Cruces?

He came a total of 3 times; twice in 1985 & once on October 29th, 1997. In fact he would come on back to back concerts in 1985 on March 7th & 8th. There was also an, unofficial, 4th show: at Club West on October 30th, 1997. The one people definitely remember were the 1985 concerts; some people would post pictures of their ticket stubs online, shortly after Prince's passing.

Is there any audio or video from any of the Las Cruces Prince concerts?

So far there haven't been any official photos or videos from either the 1985 or 1997 concerts. HOWEVER, there's a bootleg cd called Purple Underground Volume 5 that contains the soundtrack FROM the 1985 concert in Las Cruces. The album was discovered on Tumblr so it DOES, or HAS, existed at one point. It's a very hard find to get online but if someone has it, they have audio from that particular show.

However we can imagine that the shows WOULD'VE sounded like this:

Even 7 years later, fans still remember Prince fondly

There was a mural painted in Prince's honor created by Path 01; the mural was painted on the side of Good Luck Cafe on the corner of Boutz Road & Solano Drive.

And a search on Google Maps does indeed confirm that the mural is still there.

It's a shame that El Paso never got to truly expereience Prince's live performances; but based on how everyone felt when they saw the show in Las Cruces (so many people would leave how they felt on this post by The Las Cruces Sun), at least people got to enjoy one of the biggest artists in the world.
