El Paso Will Never Forget the Memories Made By Rush & Neil Peart
I'm a huge Rush fan... I know shocking right? Anyone who ever heard me on the air or met me in person knows that I LOVE Rush. They're more than just a band to me... they were my introduction to music & it's hard to imagine it's been over 2 years since the passing of the greatest drummer of all time...the late great Neil Peart.
El Paso has welcomed Rush a number of times ranging back since 1976; the last time was over a decade ago back in 2011. I have good reason to believe that the crowd that night wasn't thinking "this is the last time Rush will be here"... they were probably thinking "WOW... RUSH IS HERE!" & one look at videos FROM that night, the roar of the crowd proves it...
And of course it wouldn't be a perfect night without a drum solo from The Professor himself...
It was a fantastic show & as you saw (& heard) there were many Rush fans in El Paso. So when the news broke in 2020 that we lost Neil... I was devastated. & I wasn't the only one. Many fans in El Paso were saddened by Neil's passing & wanted to show their support for Rush:
And of course I had show my respects too. On my 28th birthday, I had a custom made Rush cake, that the band themselves shared on their Instagram account. They even liked a few posts on my Twitter & Instagram paying respects to Neil. And of course I have tons of Rush swag myself...
I even did a cover of Closer to the Heart with my good buddy Julio Ortega just months after the passing of Neil.
I wasn't the only local musician to do a Rush cover either. Ron Cooper did a cover of Stick It Out that you can listen here.
Neil Peart will be forever missed & we the fans will always be grateful to Rush for not only rocking El Paso, but for the amazing music & the memories we'll have with their music.
R.I.P. Neil...
