Today is July 29th: Geddy Lee's birthday & to say "Happy birthday" to my favorite bassist of all time, I figured we'd look back to over a decade ago when Rush came to rock El Paso at the Don Haskins Center.

The date is June 14, 2011 during Rush's Time Machine Tour. It's a Tuesday & this is a very special tour for the band: It the first tour Rush would perform the ENTIRTY of the Moving Pictures album (Tom Sawyer, Limelight, YYZ, etc).

I had just graduated from Coronado High School & went to go visit family up in Pennsylvania. So unfortunately I couldn't go to the show...But my dad got to go & little did he know, that he would be attending the last time Rush would every perform in El Paso...

When I found out that my dad got to see Rush WHILE I was away, I was pretty bummed out. I wanted to see my favorite band but I was very happy to see family on vacation (something I don't get to do very often). Also I finally DID get to see Rush the next year in Phoenix for the Clockwork Angels Live Tour.

2011 wasn't the ONLY time Rush would come to El Paso. They've come 4 times before: 1976 at the UTEP Memorial Gym, twice in 1977 at the El Paso Country Coliseum, and one more time in 1996 at the UTEP Special Events Center.

Looking back on watching Rush perform, makes me a little cathartic because I know I will never again be able to experience the magic that Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson & Neil Peart (R.I.P.) live on stage. But that's why we watch the videos on the internet & listen to the songs, we can relieve those memories & we can show our appreciation to our fallen heroes.
