El Paso tequila fans have got a helluva week ahead as the largest "agave spirits" collection in north America opens up downtown.

The Agave Tasting Room opens today, (10/21/24), which just happens to be National Mezcal Day, downtown in the Plaza Hotel. For the rest of the week, several dinners are planned. Following the "grand opening", hours for the tasting room will vary from event to event.

The Agave Room will showcase 800 different agave spirits. Tequila, of course, but also mezcals, sotols, bacanoras and raicillas. There's a dinner tonight at 7 and the rest of the week looks like this:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 22: Soledad/Socorro Dinner
  • Wednesday, Oct. 23: Clase Azul Dinner
  • Thursday, Oct. 24: Patron Dinner
  • Friday, Oct. 25: Felipe Camarena Dinner

The dinners are from 7pm to 9pm, tickets are $175 per person, 21 and up only. Moving forward, tasting dinners will be from 7pm - 10pm. Staring in December, tastings will take place on Thursdays from 4pm - 5pm.

“We want people to experience the agave spirit with food and learn how to pair those together, and how to eat and drink those enjoyably. So, it’s really a little bit of learning because we walk you through, how do you sip, how do you decide what spirit goes with what food,” Sabrina Guerrero, director of marketing and sales at the Plaza Hotel said.

“I think with all the experiences that we put together here we want to make it enjoyable for locals… but we also want people to come in from all over the nation. - ktsm

Guerrero added that El Paso draws a lot of people from all over the world here on business. You can even make your own tequila.
