Things Only El Pasoans Do That Should Be Illegal
If you've lived in El Paso long enough, you already know that we have our own special set of rules. Not the kind you’ll find in a law book but more like the kind that should exist just to keep us from driving each other crazy! From parking lot power moves to food crimes against Chico’s, El Pasoans have mastered the art of doing things that are perfectly legal but probably shouldn’t be.
Things That Aren't Illegal but Should be Illegal in El Paso
Take Chico’s Tacos, for example. It’s practically a crime to order them without drowning the tray in extra sauce, but you won’t find that written in the penal code. Some may believe that Chico’s is a crime altogether! And if you’ve ever met someone new or gone out of town, you already know the most pressing question isn’t “how are you?” but “where did you go to high school?” It’s not illegal, but maybe it should be an offense to ask it before even learning someone’s name.
So in the spirit of keeping El Paso honest (and slightly roasted), we asked you- lifelong El Pasoans, part-time El Pasoans and even former El Pasoans, and rounded up the everyday habits that aren’t illegal, but definitely feel like they should be illegal. And boy, y’all did not hold back! Scroll on for the gallery of “legal crimes” every El Pasoan knows too well.

At the end of the day, that’s what makes El Paso… well, El Paso. We may cut each other off in traffic, complain about Chico’s and their new cheese, and ask “where’d you go to high school?” like it’s a government form, but we wouldn’t trade it for anywhere else. Our quirks may not be illegal, but they’re 100% who we are. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
